Partners With You - Newsletter - June

With the sun shining, the gardens blooming and the start of the World Cup, June has started with a spring in its step! It also seems that many businesses are seeing sales building again and are looking to recruit. The other side of this coin is that more people are contacting us as they set up on their own or look for new employment. With this in mind we have dedicated our newsletter this month to all things recruitment with a bias towards those who might be applying rather than advertising.
We have met some really interesting businesses who have contributed to our newsletter; Sarah Gilfilan of Sartoria Lab has a background in Styling for Magazines and now works as a personal stylist/shopper with a flair for men's fashion and style and Nikki Hutchison of Chilli Pepper Global has worked in recruitment for many years in the City and has created her business to focus solely on the candidate, whether they are looking to move internally or externally.
We also have some exciting news to share about a potential new recruit of our own! Many of you will have met Helen, one of our senior workshop leaders and we would like to introduce you to her new daughter Esme. Mum, Dad and Esme are all doing really well and Helen is hoping to be able to run the occasional workshop for us in the autumn - we may have to wait a little longer before Esme joins the team!
Have a great summer

Magical Movies

Deliver and film your own sales message!
We told you last month that we have found a wonderful photographer who is offering to record you presenting and create a fantastic value video for your newsletter, blog or website. We've been so impressed with their set up that we have joined forces to offer 1-1 coaching with one of our team of actors before you go in to be filmed. The whole package including editing is only £195 + VAT which means it's a viable option if you want to make your CV more interactive or personal!
We have dates in the diary for the rest of the year with a couple of spaces still left on June 25th
See what we do!
How to look great at interviews
Sartoria Lab offers Personal Styling, Shopping and Wardrobe Management to men (and women) who need to look good for work, events or socially, but don't have the time, inclination or know how, to do it for themselves.
In the first few seconds of seeing someone we form an opinion of them. Never mind whether you like it or not, or think it's what's inside that counts, this is what happens. So you may as well take the chance to present the very best first impression that you can.
1. Fit
Check the fit of your suit or interview outfit especially if you haven't worn it for awhile. Find a local tailor and have your suit altered to fit you perfectly. You don't want to be nervously tugging at badly fitting clothes during your interview.
2. Make-up and personal grooming
Research has shown that women wearing make-up earn more money! I'm not suggesting it for the guys too, but great grooming is essential. Nails, hair, clothing, shoes, bags, all need to be immaculately clean and polished looking; avoid overpowering perfume or aftershave.
3. Accessories
If your budget doesn't stretch to an expensive outfit for your interviews, then invest in the very best accessories you can afford. It will trick people into thinking your clothes are more expensive. Keep it classy and classic.
4. Colours
Choose your colours carefully. Don't automatically think black and white for business. Navy and off white, camel and cream, or charcoal and pale pink also look smart and professional and may be more suited to your colouring. A high contrast in colours is considered more authoritative, but if you are interviewing for a job where you need to look approachable, then dressing in colours of similar tones to each other, rather than contrasting, will help achieve this look.
5. Personality
Your overall look needs to be professional, polished, up to date, sleek and groomed. We all have our own personal style, which we can subtly incorporate into our interview outfits, but keep it within the parameters of business wear. Of course, if you're in a creative industry then this rule is made to be broken!

Delivering your message during an interview or presentation
It's not just the way that you look that counts it's the way that you come across too - from walking into the building to leaving, your future employer will judge you on the way that you look and sound when you speak and when you don't. Our Presentation & Confidence Building workshops help you to look, sound and feel confident when you speak to groups of people while the Successful Communication workshop will address how to communicate one to one.
We still have a couple of spaces left on ourpublic workshops in June and July. If you would like to come along whether you are the interviewee or the interviewer, call us quoting "J1006" and we'll give the first 5 people to book a 10% discount on either date.
Top Tips for getting a new role

Having worked within the recruitment industry for many years, Nikki of Chilli Pepper Global has noticed that whilst the market has picked up from the tough times of last year recruitment is changing. Many companies are now taking the direct approach to their recruitment; sourcing candidates via internal referrals or by using their own and various job websites.
With this in mind Chilli Pepper Global has been created to focus solely on the candidate, whether they are looking to move internally or externally. The service works with individuals on a one-to-one basis and hand holds them through the recruitment process in order to enhance their chances of success.
Nikki's top tips for getting a new role are:
- Treat your CV as a serious project. Put aside plenty of time and make it as good as it can possibly be. It's like getting dressed up for a wedding - everything should be crisp, clean and elegantly turned out
- DO NOT underestimate the value of a Cover Letter, many people forget to accompany a cover letter when sending a CV. I would suggest that you ALWAYS include a cover letter even if it's not requested.
- Create your personal brand, what does your name say about you? If you were to put your name into Google what information could a potential employer find out about you? Portray a professional image rather than let someone else make their own assumptions of you.
- Do you know your value within the market? Money can be a difficult subject to approach however demanding too high a salary could mean that your chance has ended before it's begun. Alternatively starting a new job feeling underpaid is not a nice feeling. Check out your true value within your industry.
